A legacy off the field

Ask an 84-year-old Earle Bruce about football and he sits up a little straighter, his voice grows louder and his eyes burn with the same fire they had when he roamed the Ohio State sidelines as head coach from 1979 to 1987. Not surprisingly, Bruce has the same response when he’s asked about Alzheimer’s, a cognitive disease that has hit his family hard. It’s why he has devoted the remainder of his life to helping find a cure.

A thoughtful journey

“Where are we now socially? What are the voices we need to hear? What needs to be said? How do we find the form for our questions?” Those are the questions Ohio State Distinguished University Professor Ann Hamilton in the Department of Art asks herself as she begins a project. Most of her public works are temporary installations that challenge visitors’ habitual perceptions, opening the door for them to consider how opposites can be more alike than different.

The Stillman - Various features

My freelance work for The Ohio State University College of Social Work's alumni magazine. In this issue my writing appears on pages 8, 14-15, 18, 19 and 21. It includes features on the college's drug abuse and misuse center, two alumna spotlights on their work with the HIV community/social enterprise and women in government, adult cognitive therapy using horses and two student projects in the prestigious Denman Undergraduate Research Forum at Ohio State.
